I have decided that Christmas has a special smell, a smell that is made up of cinnamon, cloves, star anise, cardamon pods... and red wine!
With the cold winter settling in, well, cold for Sydney at least, the thought of mulled wine inspired this dinner party. Fond memories of European Xmas markets with gluwein, whole porks being roasted, stalls full of delicious delicacies and Christmas cheer were brought back and so i went about planning a menu that seemed to tie all these memories together.
Something simple to start, then a lovely roast dinner with crunchy crackling and soft slow-cooked pork, classic comfort foods of potato and roasted vegies... and finishing with desserts that had a touch of the Xmas spices! Got a little carried away with the desserts, though i still have to perfect/convert that muffin into a self-saucing pudding...
